I've Asus P5QL-E mobo w/ the southbridge's 6 sata 3.0 gb/s ports all filled. There are two empty PCI Express x1 slots and one PCI Express x16 slot. Can I purchase a PCI Express x1 Sata 6.0 gb/s card for my mobo, or must it be Sata 3.0 gb/s? Also I was wondering if I can buy and install a USB 3.0 card if that would work as well?

Yes you can in both instances buy the speed you want since the controllers are on the cards.
