More about sata nothing
  1. System specs and HDD size?

Is this new HDD replacing the original system drive?
  2. hp amd 64x2 3200 4gb ram, media max sata hd 160gb, trying to put in windows 7 ultimate, asus mb not sure of model #
  3. Yes it is a new hdd
  4. Is GPU outputting anything at all on the screen? Do the fans come on?

If the screen is black, make sure GPU is connected to the power-supply and seated properly (if not using integrated one).
  5. Yes CPU fan comes on case fan will not do much else I will check gpu thanks
  6. recheck all your cable to see if you did not loose any of the connector by putting the new hdd in
  7. checked all cables all good, if i disconnect video cable get a cable not connected on monitor

Sorry but am I missing something here?

You stated HP AMD 64x2 3200 4GB of RAM but the MB is ASUS??

So is the system an HP based system or an HP case with an ASUS mobo in it?

Will the system POST without the HDD?

Will the system post with the old drive?

Can this new drive be accessed externally?

    Thanks
  9. I bought this used I believe mb is upgraded to asus it is hp case and hdd which has failed and I'm replacing it with no luck, the system has stopped posting, it was until I changed hd , it won't post with old hd, or without, I have the case open drive is accessible. thanks
  10. Once I had a non-POST issue due to a bad ram module. Pull the ram and try to boot with only one module in place -- try all of them one by one.
  11. Tried that no change thanks
  12. Do you get any output on the screen at all?

Next steps should be to determine if the GPU is working. If GPU is ok, then it may be a motherboard issue.

    +1

Regardless of the of HDD if it is connected or not, the system should still post. You may also try defaulting the BIOS or try locating the BIOS reset pins or remove the mobo battery and then try rebooting.

Silly question, but is power supplied to the mobo and does the power supply fan spin up when turned on?
  14. Nothing on screen I've tried PC card and on board no change I'll try pulling batter thanks
  15. All fans work pulled battery no change thanks

That leads me to believe it's the motherboard, may be something got shorted out while installing the new drive. Is there a way you can test all components on a different board? At this point thats the only thing I can think of.
  17. could you put all the name and model of the parts that are in this system and does this system was a hp made
  18. Hi,

    has the issue been resolved?
