i bought one a few months ago, i dont remember what unit of load they use, vac i think. they say that a ups marked 500 whatever wont run a computer and monitor.

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

It really comes down to how long you need to run the system should the power fail and how hard are you pulling off it. The router shouldn't use too much juice, but if the pc is running full bore, it'll suck the ups dry in no time (assuming the monitor is on as well). Many of the UPS manufacturers will recommend a ups depending on your needs. Some like APC have a crude calculator to help you figure it out. A 500VA will probably give you 5-10 minutes of backup. You may also want to look at a smart-ups that will shut the system down for you if your not there.
