USAGE: My aunt wants a new desktop that will allow her to complete basic office tasks but also be upgradeable and a viable gaming platform for her 13 year old son.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: right now is 1024x768 (or something low), but she plans to upgrade to at least 1680 x 1050 (this is not included in the budget)

PURCHASE DATE: This week

PARTS NOT NEEDED: Keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, RAM

BUDGET: $900

Here's what I've got so far:

CPU and MOBO combo: Intel Core i5 750 and ASUS P7P55D-E

-$332

CASE and PSU combo: Antec Three Hundred Illusion and Antec Earthwatts 650 Watt
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...
-$125

DVD drive: ASUS Black 24x drive -$19

HDD: 500 GB Samsung Spinpoint F3

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit for system builders -$100

GPU: GTX 460 768 MB -$199

Total comes to $869 before any rebates or shipping.

Am I getting good value here? Any comments are appreciated.

Yes looks like a solid build to me!

Thanks Dav. I'm pretty sure this kid would be fine with lowered detail if it came to it, but do you think it's worth it at all to see if I can wait for the 1 GB version of the GTX 460 to become more available?

Yeah! the new 460 looks like a great gpu and ATI has nothing to compare at that pricepoint.
I hear ya about the 1gb version though that's what i would do personally.
