What is the best router

I live in a very dense house, I have purchased a few routers, none have been given full power to the first floor (the router is on the second floor) what do you suggest - I even tried the new apple extreme which seemed very powerful, I just could not set it up - my computers are PC base 64 bit.

If you can get an ethernet cable between the two floors of your house you can piggy back a second router to provide wireless service on that floor.
