I am having trouble transferring files from two old hard disk to external hard disk to then move to a new computer. MoBo died. The disk are ide I think and used the old ribbon cable. The new computer has the tape cables and in no way fit the old system. I have an old computer with w98 that has the tape cables, and it will locate the disk but will not read it. I have changed the slave jumper settings with no gain.
The new os is w7, the old disk have wvista and the old machine is w98.
What am I doing wrong? The 83 disk has about 10 jumper sitings but none seem to work. The 320 I have not tried. I has less settings, and I have set it up with the last two jumpers.
I am to old to waste this time.
