Hi, I was wondering which setup would give me better gaming performance (mainly directional sound placement).

The Roccat Kave headset which has natural 5.1 surround sound.

Or an Asus Xonar Sounds Card, good stereo headset (such as the JVC HA-RX700 or Sony MDR-V6) and a desktop mic.

Thanks for any help. :)

any excellent quality stereoheadphone, with a soundcard is far much better then 'gaming' headsets. plus you can always use surrround sound effect from the soundcard, which IMIO will still be better then gaming headphones.

I have Roccat Kave headphones and an Asus xonar DX sound card , and I get very good positional sound , the "real" 5.1 works very well in shooters and the base/vibration is great for explosions and gunshots. The headphones are also very well built and the microphone is very good.
