Issue With Drive Recognition

I'm working on an XP Home machine. While in Windows the machine WILL recognize the drive. I can load up a bootable/autorun CD in the drive and it will act as it is supposed to. When I go to reboot the machine and boot the disk after POST it WILL NOT recocnize the drive. Is this a simple driver issue? or is the drive possibly bad? I've been getting grey hair over this machine! lol

Thanks in advance.

In the BIOS, set the IDE mode instead the AHCI.

Went into the BIOS to see what was up and make the change you suggested? not even listed under devices.

Also, it's not listed in windows anymore, either. So I'm guessing it's a bad drive
