XBOX 360 usb cable peripheral drivers not working

I am a game developer and i would like to use an xbox controller to design in windows 8. However, the drivers for my usb dongle are not working out. they installed properly, and i can clearly see it in the control panel. the 'x' button blinks showing power, but the charging light is not on?!?! i removed the AA's and it still lights up without the cable illuminating!

NOTE: I am NOT using the wireless dongle.

EDIT: i did use the windows 7 32 bit drivers.

  1. It's not going to happen I'm afraid! The Xbox 360 Wireless controller can only work with the wireless adapter dongle. I know thats pretty stupid but what can you do...
Strange though, MS driver not installing. It should install automatically once you plug it in.
Can you see the dongle in Device Manager?
