my hard drive rcognized but not reading

Please tell us in detail about your computer, the exact manufacturer and model # of the HDD, and what has happened.

Right click on My Computer, click on Manage, click in the lower left corner to bring up Disk Management, and if you could upload a screenshot of the lower graphical area, we can hopefully determine what is going on.
