I3 540 or Phenom II 740?

Which one should I choose? I NEVER used an intel cpu before and so it'll be different. I'm building another gaming rig and I'm going to use cfx 4850s. I'll be overclocking it to mid 3ghz's and hopefully unlock a core.

Which one is overall better for game performance?

I3 dual core. 740BE triple core with possibility to unlock core. I guess it is a matter of the money you spend. The AMD system is going to be cheaper and performance is going to be close.
