Exanding ram 2GB to 6GB

i am using computer model HP 7800dc desktop with system type- 32bit operating sysytem. i want to install expand its RAM from 2GB to 6GB. is it possible with wondows vista operating system.

Don't bother going over 4GB with a 32-bit operating system. If you want to fully use 6GB you'll need to get a 64-bit version of Windows.

Yes.
But, to utilize more than 3.5gb or so, you will need the 64 bit version of Vista. Microsoft will send you the 64 bit version for a $10 handling fee. I can't find the link, but here is a phone # (800) 360-7561

You will have to do a clean install, and activate using your 32 bit product key.

To my mind, Windows 7 is a superior os, and I would consider buying the Windows 7 upgrade package. It will come with both a 32 bit and a 64 bit dvd.

If you don't want to upgrade the os get a compatible 4 gig 2X2 memory kit and buy a dedicated gpu if you are running onboard video using system memory. That way you would have 3.5 gb of usable memory.
