Hi guys,
Normally I'd spend hours researching and hand picking the best components for the system, but I just don't have time so I thought I might be able to utilise what other's are currently building, or have built recently.
I work independantly as a 3d specialist / video editor. I have my workstation, plus 2 weak systems which up until now has been sufficient rendering power. But I have just landed a contract and need to think about rendering boxes since I will be working on my own workstation around the clock.
Purely based on budget, I want to avoid a building/buying a rack, and slotting it with systems. That might happen down the track, but I need a solution within a few days even if it's a temporary measure.
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: ASAP, locally.
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: CAD rendering. Primarily 3D Studio Max and VRay.
Running Linux Unbuntu and Dr Queue.
PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Will be Remoting to systems, will
not require any peripherals (keyboard, mouse, or monitor).
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: I have been using Australian online shop
www.pccasegear.com.au but will most likely buy localled based on these prices.
PARTS PREFERENCES: Anything Bang for Buck. I was thinking AMD Phenom on a Gigabyte board, or similar.
OVERCLOCKING: No.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Pc's will be stacked in a spare room with a server, noise is not a major concern. Onboard graphics would be a plus. Rendering is primarily driven by CPU and RAM.
Based on my own quick reseach, here is what I have come up with. I am looking for suggestions on everything listed, or parhaps I have overlooked something. Will the 420W PSU listed be able to run an X6 Phenom and 8gb of RAM? I'm more interested in cheap parts that can be replaced than I am quality parts that will last forever.
Prices are all Australian currency.
