I am currently using 880G's motherboard with onboard HD4250 graphics..since it has already an integrated video on board, will it be advantageous if i use a videocard of lower specs than my onboard video..tnx
Lower spec discrete GPU? Usually the onboard is as low as you can go with the exception of older baseline cards. A modern discrete card would in almost all cases be an upgrade to the onboard.

No it will not extend the lifespan of your board. It will free up system memory since the card has its own designated memory along with a more complicated GPU onboard it will over all increase the performance of the system.
