i have a dell studio 15 laptop which i use as main laptop for both study at university and for fun on the side (wow on the weekends). i ran cpu-z today to find out why my system runs so slowly.

i have an intel core two duo t6500 @ 2.1 ghz, but under clocks it says core speed 1194.7 mhz. sometimes it shoots up to 2000+ mhz, but then goes back down to around 1.2k.

is this normal? my friend said something is wrong with my cpu because he's got a similar laptop but with 2.26 ghz speed, and his stays at 2300 mhz all the time.

That is normal, its called Speed Step, you will notice that when the speed goes down the voltage should also drop pretty significantly, this reduces power consumption and heat output to give you better battery life and keep everything cooler when you dont need the full power of the processor.
