Basically my debate is to buy a cheap graphics card now and wait till Guild Wars 2 release and then get a better one, or just buy a better one now...see sale 5770 at bottom.

I have been trying to keep this a budget build (heavy on the sales and rebates), but willing to spend a bit more on the graphics if it will play Guild Wars 2 and last awhile.

CURRENT INVESTMENT = ~$357 (including WIN7PRO, i reused my 24" LCD and DVDRW)

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE:
- now to before November 1 (Guild Wars 2 release date)

BUDGET RANGE:
- about $50 OR up to $125 (for a card that would do GW2) prices after rebate and/or BING
- I do have $10 credit at tigerdirect or will use BCB for larger purchase there

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT:
- part time HTPC (HDMI not required, but nice option), mild gaming = WOW, and possibly Guild Wars 2 when it comes out.

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY:
i3 530 w/integrated graphics
OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready Active PFC Power Supply

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS:
CPU: Intel i3 530 CPU
OS: Windows 7 Professional
MB: Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H Motherboard - Intel H55, LGA1156, Micro ATX, Audio, Video, PCI Express 2.0, LAN, USB 2.0
RAM: Corsair XMS3 TW3X4G1333C9AG 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM - - PC10666, 1333MHz, 4096MB (2x 2048MB), 240 Pin, Dual-Channel
HD: Seagate ST31000528AS Barracuda 7200.12 Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200 rpm, 32MB, SATA-3G, OEM
CASE: RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEB 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS:
- almost any site, newegg, tigerdirect, no fry's or microcenter nearby

PARTS PREFERENCES:
- no brand pref, but would prefer well reviewed cards

OVERCLOCKING: no SLI OR CROSSFIRE: no

MONITOR RESOLUTION:
-24" LCD 1920x1200 max rez (has VGA, DVI, HDMI, +others), gaming at lesser resolution is ok

A couple of cards i was looking at...
- I have been reading a bunch here...that is what got me thinking about the 5770 that is onsale now, but i haven't bought a graphics card since a 128mb GeForce in 2002?  So ANY advise would be great :D

Considering the GTS 240 is definitely not a gaming card, and resale on video cards can suck... I'd honestly SAVE money by buying the ATI 5770 now. It seems pointless buying two video cards. Besides, @ 1920x1200 the ATI 5770 is about the lowest video card I'd personally buy.

For WoW & Guild Wars (not super familiar with GW2) the ATI 5770 should suit you well at that resolution, as neither are super intensive games visually.

If all your discount codes work, $127 for an ATI 5770 is a great deal. But I wouldn't waste money on a GTS 240 personally.

I would say the 240 is really just an entry level gaming card, you could probably play wow, and GW2 on a 240 at 1080p but you might get some frame dips, i would agree that if you don't mind spending the extra money on a 5770 then go for it.

if you don't want to cut it close with the 240 or spend that much for a 5770 you could always look at the 4850, and 250gts which are betwen the 240 and 5770 in price and performance

Looking at the graphics quality in the Guild Wars 2 screenshots, the ATI 5770 seems like the least I'd personally go with @ the 1920x1200 the OP's monitor is rated at (note that's not 1080p).

Then again, even at 1080p I'm all about getting high graphics settings when I play games. So I couldn't stand anything less than an ATI 5770 myself anyhow.

I use a 5750 at 1366x768. WoW runs buttery smooth at that resolution with max everything. 100+ fps in 5 mans. I average about 58 fps in SW, and 40 in Dalaran. I did bump it up to 1920x1080 for poops in giggles. I dont remember the fps, but it still ran smooth in SW. Never went to Dalaran. THe 5770 would run even better.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions...
My math was off a little, the 5770 will be $130...

Looked at some of the reviews of the 4850, and the GTS 250

I think i'm just going to go for the 5770...as long as the wife gives it the ok
I've got some other spare computer parts i can craigslist to make up the difference.
I also like the fact that the 5770 seems to run cooler and draw less power
