Computer Shuts Down When I Play Any Games.

Whenever I play a game my PC shuts down inexplicably. This just started today after a blue screen of death. My PC is a few months old and this has never happened before today. I am able to load the game but when the computer starts to actually render graphics it shuts down. My issue seem to be in overheating. BIOS tells me my CPU is running around 39-41 degrees C, however speedfan, coretemp, and a few other programs are giving me temperature readings well over 85 degrees C. I am not sure why these two temperature readings are so very different but I feel this must be the reason behind these shut downs. I was hoping to see if anyone had any advice on these random shut downs and why these temperature variations are so vast.
Thanks to everyone in advance!

(I was not sure whether this is a CPU or motherboard issue and thus not sure which forum.)

Could this be a motherboard sensor issue?

The BIOS provides idle temps, i.e., nothing is running. Does it shutdown only when playing games or does it also shutdown when running Prime95 (to make all cores 100% busy)? If the issue ocurs only when running games, then your video card probably overheats. If the issue occurs whenever that CPU is very busy, then check the CPU HSF.

The usual three suspects:
Thermal problems
Video driver problems
Inadequate PSU.
