I was able to salvage old school pictures I took with an Apple Take
QuickTake 100 we had in mid 90s but I can't find a way to open it in
Windows XP.

The Mac system I got the files off of can see the file, but when I try
to save as another format in QuickTake software, the system crashes and
it won't let me get anywhere. Since I don't have the software anymore,
I can't reinstall it.

Any idea how I can convert these pics to JPG or TIFF without having to
relocate the QuickTime software and having to work on Macintrash again?

GraphicConverter on the Mac side should let you save them in other
formats, then when you move them over to the PC it should be able to
read them. On the PC side, you might try something like LView.

I've got a QuickTake 150 that still works. Not bad for that ancient
technology. Hang on to that model 100...that was the first digital
camera available to the general public.

They're just PICT files, nothing special because they came from a
QuickTake. PICT was the Macintosh system-wide graphics format, like
WMF. On Windows, Photoshop will open them, or likely the Apple
QuickTime player for Windows (free download)

At one point, there WAS a Windows version of the QuickTake software,
but I don't know where you'd find it now.

If you could grit your teeth and use a Mac for a few minutes, the
excellent shareware program GraphicConverter will convert PICT to
anything you please.

The regular "PICT" is a non-proprietary format that is accessible under
windows, but "Quicktake PICT" is different. It requires "quicktake"
plug in even to be usable under Mac OS 8. Of course the plug -in is
unavailable for Windows.

I had photoshop installed on my ancient Macintrash(its not translucent
oh oh, so old) and salvaged about 100MB worth of quicktake photos one
by one. Talk about TIME CONSUMING :(

I don't know if this is any help ... but IrfanView will open QTIF files.
Their web page on
File Formats says it requires a plug-in and Quicktime ... so that QTIF just
*might* be an acronym for QuickTake Image File" ... or something like that.

Their documentation says
"... this PlugIn allows IrfanView to play Apple Quicktime formats: MOV,
MacPICT, QTIF and FLI/FLC.
...."
http://www.irfanview.com/

[Don't forget to download the plug-ins ... formats.zip IIRC ...]
