Planning to upgrade pc, video card and psu question

I bought a new pc awhile ago and plan to upgrade it soon, here's the specs:

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 235e 2.7 GHz
RAM: 6.00 GB DDR2 800
Chipset: NForce 430 MCP61
Graphics: GeForce 6150SE
Hard Drive: 750 GB SATA 3.0 Gbps
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
PSU: 250 watt

I know the first thing I need to change is power supply and graphics card, because I want it to play games better. But my problem is my friend is getting a better graphics card and he wants to give me his old one, but he thinks it might cause problems since his came from a pre built gaming pc and im not sure what to make of it since i cant find the card on tigerdirect, so any info on this would help anyway here it is:

OEM MSI VCO Build, VCO Geforce 9800GT

I also like some recommendations on what kind of psu to get and what brand, thanks.

More about planning upgrade video card question
  1. His card should work fine in your system! A good quality 400-500watt PSU will run that no problems, I suggest looking for Corsair or Antec in that range.
  2. +1
  3. This one will work a great deal after MIR on a quality unit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008
  4. thanks for the reply, I'll let him know to go ahead and mail it. That looks like a good psu too so I'll bookmark it for later to buy it. :D
  5. this is slightly off topic, but what woul happen if I try to put in the graphics card before the psu? I have a idea but would wanna hear from ppl who actually know o_o
  6. You will end up with an unstable system random reboots as best case scenario or it will refuse to start at all.
  7. ok I wont do that then, wouldnt want freak my computer out like that
