Hey,
I'm needing to build an x64 Windows 7 "server". I have all the SATA drives (mix of 3 and 6GB/s) for a total of 8TB. I have a PCIe videa card, a SATA DVD burner, a 900W power supply, and a case. This is all from my previous setup. I checked and the burner and video card still work on these gen of MB's. In fact my video card was so high end and just new that they still sell it as a mid-grade nVIDIA for desktops now.
SOOO...I need an MB, CPU, and Memory.
This is what I am looking at, any suggestions?
MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

What memory should I get? Is this a good setup for a primarily storage machine? I do run it 24x7 on the internet as an FTP server as well as a legal torrent down/up for a community of music enthusiasts who record Dave Matthews Band. I need suggestions, please let em know!
Bill

How many drives are you going to run? and just in a jbod configuration or are you going to raid? as for the memory any 8Gb 1600 dual channel kit should work fine.

As of now I have three-3TB, two 2TB, four 750GB. I plan on doing a RAID but I need redundancy not necessarily speed. While I do have to process these audio files, hash check, code, decode, and other audio processing, I do want speed (the collection is now 3.5TB) so with the amount of drives I am thinking of doing RAID 10 (0+1). I have had bad MB's in the past, not working the RAID right and actually physically bricking 4 drives all at once. So I may stay JBOD, but mirror each JBOd like RAID 1. Suggestions with the types (data capacity) number of drives I do have?
Thanks,
Bill
