i use m- audio delta 1010 sound card...
also an echo mona card.....(never at the same time)
(no plans to use firewire)

why that extreme of a processor, proximon. If he's not gaming or running any other really intense programs he could easily save a few bucks and downgrade to a i5 650, and if he really wanted to, use the built in GPU with an h57 board.

The Wiki on DAW

I don't do any of this myself but the OP does say he wants to be able to run "big programs" and the wiki says fast CPUs are an advantage. That is also my experience from others that have requested similar builds.

I was in a rush earlier and should have included a quieter CPU fan:

Again, if you need to trim down the cost we can do that. Also if more RAM is a priority, we can reduce the processor.

This was for a dude who wanted 4 x displays (ATI SurroundView feature, IGP + Discrete) so less that HD 5550 @ $724AR

I'm just saying from what he had before (and was probably running DAW and other similar programs on it), the jump all the way to a higher end (p55) i7 might not be necessary.

But I do change my mind and say that he needs at least 4 logical cores.
