how does one determine the number of pci express LANES in a computer what does the number of lanes depend on for eg - cpu, chipset, motherboard etc

if u do not want to take the time and effort to answer, then dont, but do not direct me to wikipedia.
i have already read material on it but not found the specific answer i am looking for, hence i posted a question here
 
The simple answer is it is a communication bus on the motherboard, the more lanes the more communication can happen. For example two GPU's in SLI often run in x8 x8 because of no more lanes available, high end boards have more lanes and can run in x16 x16.

i want to know how many pci e lanes there are in a given cpu-motherboard combination, what does this number depend on(processor or motherboard or both)

you are talking about the x58 chipset ok, but what about the p67 or h67 in these chipsets the cpu also has a direct link to the pcie bus as shown in the fig

doesnt the cpu affect the number of lanes in this chipset
2)with reference to ur answer do the lanes depend on the chipset or the actual motherboard i mean if i had say an abc motherboard with x58 and another xyz motherboard also x58 would they have the same number of lanes
