Graphics Card Upgrade

Solution
Corsair 650Watt..you could do an HD5850 crossfire, but then again, that's the same price as an HD5970. An HD5830 crossfire would outperform your HD4870x2, especially if overclocked, but then you'd need a new PSU.

Ultimately, an HD5970 is the only thing worth it. ATI cards do physics just fine, and DX11 is only worth it if the games you play use it.

Hey guys, i was thinking to upgrade my video card. Currently i have the HD 4870 X2 with Accelero Xtreme cooler.

Let me tell you this card runs fine and silent with this cooler.

The reason to upgrade is for the directx 11 and better performance. The HD 5870 looks very promising, but GTX 480 has physics and other things that ATI don't.

if i was to sell the HD 4870 X2 which one will you recommend. Also i don't want something noisy or hot (temperature). or how about crossfire, wait this will required a new PSU right.

If your set on selling the card then i would look at the 5870 or maybe look at xfire 5770 (about $100 less and equal performance from what i've read to a 5870). The card yes it doesn't have the physics and some other things but costs about $100 less and uses no where near the amount of power of the GTX480 (not sure if power is something your concerned about.)

Although with what shadow187 said the 5970 is really the only card that will give you the true performance jump.

oh man, i'm glad i came here then. but the HD 5970 is way to expensive. so you saying that physics and D11 is nothing to be worry about?

This is great info, but if i go with crossfire i will need a new power supply the one i have is corsair 650W. A new one will be over $100 i tell you.
maybe i should wait for the HD 5970 to drop prices a bit and sell the one i have.
