Worst power supplies EVAR!

Common everyone here!

Do a newegg link to the worst the site sells.

This will help newbies know what to avoid!

My vote goes to-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817159045
but I know it's worse out there.

Let the people be warned!!! :non:

So when a single PSU makes your WHOLE computer seem like it sucks, isn't it horrible huh?

That PSU is good wtf are you smoking.
  6. Anything made by Deer?

I'd like to link that Diablotek 1050W unit that jonnyguru blew up. A 1kW unit that can actually do just past 500W. What a ripoff.

BTW shovenose, that unit isn't horrible. At least it doesn't have that red switch in the back:P

How about the Bestec jg tested that appeared to output its label, but also provided a mobo-killing spike every time it was turned on? There's a pernicious one for you.
And for blowups, there's the string of assorted Huntkey units that hardwaresecrets smoked, or the chokemax that starred in Corsair cinema: http://www.corsair.com/cinema/movie.aspx?id=622747
And, on the one shovenose linked, the little switch is black, but quite visible in the pic.

  9. and a coolmax cu-500b :)
  10. You have them in a display case or are you using them?
  11. sitting around - will use em eventually of course :)
  12. Sure you'll use them, just not as PSUs in a computer...
  13. as what then? toilet papaer :) of course ill use them in computers. repairs or new builds of mine of friends. i just wont run anthing needing lots of power.
  14. Use them to power bug zappers; they may kill even more when they flame out.
Even if you operate them in a comfortable part of their range as to quantity of power, the quality of the waveforms may still be poor, and transient and other protections will likely be missing too. They could die themselves, and/or preside over the death of other components, when hit by inevitable power line anomalies.
  15. are you sure? ok yes im one of the first people to tell someone to throw away their raidmax and buy a corsair, but if im running a core2duo with integrated graphics surely an okia 500w psu would be fine???

    how?
  20. how bout i keep them until i own a computer store, have a load tester, wirte psu reviews, and recap people's motherboards, sell/repair computers, etc. then i can do that. right now. no. i cant do that. im more in the state of depression and wanting to kill myself...
  21. ^ Blowing stuff up should make you happy :D
  22. well is wasnt joking. point being theres nothing i can do. besides why would i blow it up? i just bought them :)
  23. ^ You BOUGHT cr@ppy PSUs?!?!?!? Lay off the beer man! ;)

Not an excuse I've ever used! [:mousemonkey]
  26. At 15, maybe he's a student of physics who has been applying the right-hand rule incorrectly. It has to do with the flow direction of electrical and magnetic forces, but nothing at all to do with friction.

Anyway, read the tutorials at HardwareSecrets.com, and some of their reviews. They explain what makes a PSU crappy, or rather how a crappy PSU is made vs. how a good one is made. Jonnyguru has good reviews too; not quite as technical (although both do dissections), but often more humorous, especially when they blow one up.
  27. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?MfrId=1583&CatId=106

Don't just go by the reviews. Sure they are decent quality, but there is a reason you buy from the top brands. Their support. I recently misplaced half the cables to my Ultra X3 1000w and contacted them for replacements and was told that they don't supply the cables separately, not even under WARRANTY.

Yeah, F- you too Ultra, and Tigerdirect in extension.

    I'm 14 and I do. Lol jk.

But honestly, setting PSUs on fire seems like a fun process, heck its cheaper than buying fireworks and way more entertaining IMO.
  29. i dont intend them to catch on fire. in fact, when i sell computers that i build of (mostly) used parts, i do a very thorough burn-in and testing phase. and dell, hp, acer, and all the other oems use lousy psus. i can do it too. (and yes i supply a 60 day warranty on most things is sell.)...

    Didn't have PC's when I was 15. :(
  34. Would like to point out the this thread needs changes still. How can you tell from the link that its a bad PSU? What would be better is finding a review where the PSU explodes, then linking the newegg page right after. That way we can laugh at all those people who bought the PSU and gave it 5 eggs.
  35. Thats a good idea. And i gave the coolmax cu-500b. A 5star review less than a year ago. :) but now i know more about s****y psus so i would give it 2 stars for not being doa
