I'd like to link that Diablotek 1050W unit that jonnyguru blew up. A 1kW unit that can actually do just past 500W. What a ripoff.

BTW shovenose, that unit isn't horrible. At least it doesn't have that red switch in the back

How about the Bestec jg tested that appeared to output its label, but also provided a mobo-killing spike every time it was turned on? There's a pernicious one for you.

And, on the one shovenose linked, the little switch is black, but quite visible in the pic.

as what then? toilet papaer of course ill use them in computers. repairs or new builds of mine of friends. i just wont run anthing needing lots of power.

Use them to power bug zappers; they may kill even more when they flame out.
Even if you operate them in a comfortable part of their range as to quantity of power, the quality of the waveforms may still be poor, and transient and other protections will likely be missing too. They could die themselves, and/or preside over the death of other components, when hit by inevitable power line anomalies.

No. I use cr@ppy PSUs for lighting LED strings in Christmas.
