I am just starting a build, and cannot see much, if any difference in these two cards. Does the 58xx generation have something new that the 57xx generation lacks? Very new to this, so please excuse any 'obvious' questions :)

I have filled in the templete w/what little I know...

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: (1 month)

BUDGET RANGE: (e.g.: USD $250) Before Rebates

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: (Gaming [MW2])

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: (nothing current, this is for new system. Plan on getting OCZ Fatal1ty 550W)

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: (considering a gigabyte 880 mobo, definitely the X4 965BE cpu, Antec 902 case, 4gb ram, Win 7 Prem 64)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: (newegg.com only, please)

PARTS PREFERENCES: (only ATI cards, and no HIS)

OVERCLOCKING: No / Maybe SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No

MONITOR RESOLUTION: (1920x1200)

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Get a 5770 and save your cash if you only play MW2, if you are going to play games that are heavier on the GPU I would recommend a GTX 465. The 5830 is not worth the cash unless you can find one at 200.00$ or cheaper.

Seeing as how your budget is $250, I would really recommend saving up another $40 and getting an HD5850. It offers so much more performance over the 5830.

Neither the 5830 nor the 5770 will max most games on 1920x1080, and I recommend again an HD5850 for those heavier games.

My HD5770 can max out Mass Effect 2 at 1920x1080 just fine. Crysis was at high settings (not very high) with 2x AA and acceptable framerates, ie 20-30. That's with AA mode at super sample, Mipmap level at High quality, and triple buffering on.

EDIT: Mind you, my Q9550 CPU was overclocked to 3.4ghz but my PSU is a POS and is faulty, tier 5. We'll see what I get when my replacement PSU gets here.
