APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: This week, possibly this month

BUDGET RANGE: About $1000 after rebates

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, video editing, moderate 3D modeling (mostly with Blender)

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard and Mouse

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: www.newegg.com

PARTS PREFERENCES: nVidia for the video card, as they have the best Linux compatibility/support

OVERCLOCKING: Probably not

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080, 1920x1200

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Nothing really...case doesn't have to be crazy flashy, and I don't need anything spectacular for the KB/M. The main thing is the nVidia video card. Gots to have my Linux...

Youre probly looking at something like a GTX460 1gb for $230, i5-750 for $200, gigabyte motherboard for $160, 6gb DDR3 for around $150, case and powersupply around $160, harddrive (50-100 depending on size), DVDrw ($25)

Nothing mind-blowing...I'm not gonna need Crysis/Crysis 2 at full settings or anything. I'm definitely getting StarCraft II, but I know that's not going to need much. Mostly just something that's going to play great/decent games for a reasonable amount of time.

Yeah... looks good. I didnt realize you needed a monitor as well. Go with what you listed above... Then about $100 for 4gb DDR3 (no reason to do 6gb on AMD build), and $150-$170 for a good monitor and you're at your price.

Check out logicbuy.com for monitors. I just saw a 23.6" 1080p on there yesterday for $160bucks!

Here's the build so far...I figure I could go without a monitor for now and just run the PS3 and PC through the same monitor.

Windows 7 for the gaming...Linux still leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to games. Many can be run using WINE, but usually with some setbacks.

And I have an old USB keyboard and mouse laying around somewhere that will do the job fine for now. Speakers aren't a huge issue either...my neighbors gave me an old Altec Lansing 2.1 set they were just going to throw away.

/edit/ Lol...sorry. I probably shouldn't assume everyone knows my crazy acronyms (I work in the medical field and am in the Army, so it's a tough habit to break).
