I am a big fan of RTS and MMORPG games, I live in TN so not looking to use Newegg due to sales tax, will use Amazon or tigerdirect, so far I have a system mocked up on tigerdirect, but deciding which video card I should be looking at using, I am at a stand still for ATi or Nvidia, they seem to jump back and forth on bench marks but here are the two I have been looking at.

XFX HD577AZNFC Radeon HD 5770 Video Card - 1GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, CrossFireX Ready, Dual DVI, Display Port, HDMI

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/ite...

VS

EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Video Card - 896MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 x16, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, VGA Support

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/ite...

Like I said, I primarily play RTS games, I am looking forward to Starcraft 2, and MMORPG such as World of Warcraft. The processor I currently have set up is the Core I5 quad core with 4 GB of DD3 RAM

Unless you specifically want that XFX 5770 (which can be had for same price with free Shipping @ NewEgg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... ) you might look at some cheaper ones. NewEgg.com has some basic entry level ones made by PowerColor for like $149.

Trying to stay away from newegg do the 9.25% price increase on what ever you are looking at.

Last I checked, the ATI 5770's were generally cheaper than the GTX 260's. So in that case, I'd say just buy an ATI 5770. You'll also get DX11 support for later on.

What resolution do you play at?

There's only a $10 price difference between the two cards he linked above. :)  (not including freight/tax)

Blah still not sure, that 5830 looks soooo nice but it would be around 50-60$ more it looks like. after tax and everything. because so far for my mock computer, shipping is only around 22$ for everything includding a 30lb case

At 1680x1050 the bump up to the 5830 isn't going to matter a whole ton. A good GTX 260 or ATI 5770 would serve you well. However, if you wanted to bump up to 1920x1080 then I'd suggest the ATI 5850 (not 5830). The 5830 is sort of oddly in between the 5770 and 5850. It's kind of a limbo card. If you want more muscle @ 1680x1050 then go for it. But at that point, with 5850's being just under $300 these days, I'm not sure about the 5830. Bit faster, but not necessarily needed.

IF you're getting a Crossfire capable motherboard (and power supply) you could do a single ATI 5770 now, and have room for another one later. That would give you performance on par with (or slightly faster) than a single ATI 5850. All depends on budget.

Not really, the GTX 260 price is listed after a $20 MIR which he will have to wait a month or two to have come in.

Like others have said at 1680x1050, a GTX260 or a 5770 will be plenty, you wont need the extra power of the 5830, also a 5770 will produce far less heat than a 5830 which uses even more power than a 5850.

The 5770 is fine for 1650 x 1050....then again, so is a GTS 250

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphics-card-gefor...

"GeForce GTS 250

Exceptional 1680x1050 performance in most games, 1920x1200 in most games with lowered detail"

You can grab one for about 60% of the cost of a 5770 ($90) w/ two free games here ....and add a 2nd now or later in SLI for very good performance at 1920 x 1200

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

The 250 won't do DX11 and while the 5770 is a DX11 card, it won't handle DX11 games at 1920 x 1200.

If your goal is to be able to play DX11 games at 1920 x 1200 at some point, I wouldn't go less than a 5850 or 470.

I play some similar games, and a HD5770 at 1920x1080 works fine with all settings maxed in games like Guild Wars (more graphically demanding than WoW), Sacred 2, Dragon Age: Origins; I expect it to do well in Guild Wars 2 and any other games I'm likely to play.
I'm in TN too, but lowered shipping costs and decent deals have thus far been making the extortion bearable; their service has always been great, though it's a shame that parasites rather than the service providers are getting the money...

A 1GB 5770. If you're willing to spend up to $200, then I say get this 5770 and overclock it

MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770 1GB $179.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

You could also just go with one of the cheaper 5770s if you weren't too interested in overclocking.
