i have Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz, 1Gb 667mhz ram, nvidia 8400GS video card, and foxconn CMX(-K) motherboard with 533,667, 800, 1033, 1333(o.c) fsb. i

want to update its cpu and ram to core 2 duo e8500 3.16GHz 1333fsb and 2gb 667mhz ram beside the other one. Would that be enough effective to play

new games with nice quality? TNX.

You will certainly get an improvement compared to your current configuration. However the latest games are very demanding. You will be able to play most of the older games well but the modern games seem comfortable with an i5 Processor, 4 GB RAM and a Velicoraptor HDD or SSD. A NVIDIA GTX 260 seems to handle most things and offers more than ATI such as CUDA and PHYSX.

really you need a new cpu, more ram, and a better video card, the 8400GS was never a gaming card by any stretch of the imagination

1) for the cpu i would grab the newest BIOS and get the e8x00 series
2) as for ram, i would just buy 4GB(2x2GB) DDR2-800
3) video card depends a lot on budget (as does the cpu)
4) i would just recommend a new computer in general

1) CUDA isn't used for games, so no help there
2) GPU PhysX is only used in a handful of games (around a dozen)
3) Velocoraptor is pointless as they are too expensive for what you get (hell the 500GB/platter drives a plenty fast)
