PSU connector to motherboard

Need to replace motheboard and power supply. The motheboard I purchased has a 4 pin connector for power. The old power supply has 8 pins. Does the new psu need to have only 4 pins? Or can an 8 pin connector that splits into be used? Looked at some psu's and they are 4 or 8 pin connectors. Thanks.

All PSUs I've seen have either both 4 and 8 pin connectors, or a 4+4 pin connector. What PSU do you have?

Thermaltake TR2 8pin connector. New motherboard has a 4 pin connector.

Which PSU? For example here is the 430W.

Notice on the details tab that it has a 4+4 8 pin cable. (meaning that 8 pin will break in half giving you the 4 pin that you need.)

The PSU is about a year old. It is 600w. Yes, the pin is in two 4 pin connectors. So using just one of the 4 pins is ok? Thanks.
