APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Within the next week or month.

BUDGET RANGE: ~$600

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming, web surfing, watching movies

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg, tigerdirect

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: None

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe in the future

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Currently 1680x1050 (syncmaster 205bw)

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: The computer I built 4 1/2 years ago is really starting to show it's age, and I've been looking into upgrading. My goal was to keep it around $600 while giving me room for upgrades in the future, and below is what I've come up with. I wanted a machine which would be good but not great for running games such as Starcraft II and Civ5. I have not put a Graphics card in this build because the motherboard has a Radeon 4250 built in which I can use until getting the newer games. I am looking at a Radeon 5770.
The mouse is on there because it's only $5 and my wife could use it for her netbook.

Thank you for the input! Can I ask why the phenom x2 555 instead of the athlon x3 440? Performance wise they seemed to be fairly similar, and the x3 is cheaper (though not black edition)

I also was thinking of the 750TX because with the current rebate it would be the same price as the TP550 and would give me plenty of watts in case i crossfire later.

Should I be looking at an MB with directx 11? I just noticed the one I was thinking of is 10.1

I was on the laptop and a bit frustrated trying to read your image.... thought is was a dual actually. I do feel like the X2 555 is the better buy however because it's unlocked and so can perform faster. You have the CHANCE of unlocking cores on it. For your usage a dual core would be fine anyway. I'm using a similar Intel CPU and if I needed more cores I would buy them. I keep wondering when I will need more. Perhaps next year, or when Civ 5 comes out.

No 880G board will ever let you crossfire. You need a 890GX for that, or there may be one 870 that will do X8/X8. If you want to crossfire then yes 750TX is a good choice.

I don't know that any motherboard CPU has DX 11, it would be rather useless as DX 11 features are too demanding for onboard GPUs... I hope you appreciate how low you will have to have settings to run any modern game.

Here's a board/CPU suggestion

TOTAL: $614.93
It's a little over your budget, but for the cpu your getting and the amount you can OC the gpu, (CuCore's are pretty good at ocing) I'd say it was a decent deal.

Newegg.com cannot guarantee the compatibility of Combo items. Please contact the manufacturer(s) directly if you have issues or concerns regarding compatibility. Read that before you go with combos buddy. As for Tiger Direct and NewEgg, they are the 2 best sites for saving money on new computers and parts. I was looking at a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus on NewEgg $49, thinking i am getting the best deal, then i went to Tiger Direct to check and it was $29. I was like wow, both sites have specific parts cheaper than the other. It won't be a bad idea to get the cheapest parts combining both sites ;).
