Multiple video cards and PSUs and Still Getting BSoDs

Hi all. A little history first. Last Christmas I purchased a system from Cyberpower (DXDiag with specs will be included below) that ran fine for a couple of weeks until my Radeon HD 5750 started giving me the vertical lines crash. I RMAed the video card, got one that would not run on the power supply (600 Watt Cyberpower PSU, 35 amps on 12V rail according to the sticker), sent that one back, and bought a Radeon HD 5770 on my own.

I also received a DiabloTek 1000 watt PSU as a gift, which I plugged in. After the first reboot, however, that power supply died. So I swapped it out for a Corsair 750 Watt PSU. After a month, THAT one died too. Finally put the original PSU back in and it's been in the case ever since.

I started to get BSoD crashes with "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" messages, with stop codes ranging from 0x7A to 0x0A. I ran the Windows 7 memory diagnostic several times with no problems showing. I ran the Furmark 3D stress test on the Radeon 5770, also with no problems. However, before these crashes, the display always tore up into vertical slashes, so I figured it was the vid card.

Figuring that the 5770 was either underpowered or no good, I purchased a GeForce GT 240 to put in. When I opened the case to make the swap, I smelled a faint ozone odor which hadn't been present before. I thought this might have been because the PSU was working too hard or the card was running too hot (even after manually adjusting the fan settings up and up and up). GT 240 installation went smoothly. Fired it up with no problems.

Two days later I get a new BSoD message. No display tearing, just a BSoD saying "INTERRUPT EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED" with a stop code of 0x3D.

Summarizing:

2 PSUs died.
2 or 3 video cards either crashed or are no good.
RAM diagnostic shows nothing wrong.
ChkDsk showed no corrupt or bad spots on hard drive.

I'm thinking there may be something wrong with the mobo but I don't see anything physically wrong when looking at it. But what else could cause two power supplies to die like that? Here's the DxDiag:

Woah!!! That's a bucket load of information not needed. You current full system specs. Brand and rating would be nice.

I only found one thing from the pile...

Sorry. I didn't mean to drown you in info! :??:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 620, 2.6 gHz
RAM: 4 GB DDR3 in two slots (generic brand)
PSU: Azza Cyberpower 600 Watt
GPU: EVGA GeForce GT 240 1GB DDR5
Mobo: MSI 770-C45

Previous power supplies, as mentioned before, were DiabloTek and Corsair. Previous video cards were both Sapphire Radeons.

What do you mean by rating? And does the ozone smell indicate something wrong?

Edit: I'm not using a USB modem as mentioned in the link. Belkin Wireless 54G router with a Linksys wireless antenna card.

Considering you have had different PSUs fail, and different faults raised by your OS, I'm guessing you have a bad mobo and/or CPU (as you already suspected).

Years ago I chased random crashes, resets, and hangs for over a year before support finally just replaced the whole mobo and CPU. Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean there isn't a serious problem.

If the motherboard and CPU are still under warranty, you can request an RMA. I would not kill any more PSUs or other devices in that computer without repairing/replacing that motherboard. I would replace the CPU just because you don't know what kind of damage it suffered.

Yes, re-installing Windows would be a good idea, but Windows won't cause a machine to not power-up (as in my case), fry a PSU, or emit ozone. That doesn't stop tech support from suggesting it though.

P.S. although I know this has nothing to do with it, my faulty MOBO was an MSI too. Bad luck there.

Is there a way for me to find out if the mobo is bad? I've reseated everything in this PC multiple times. I'd really rather not do the RMA since it means paying shipping costs from New York to California. Also, last time I RMAed something from this PC, Cyberpower sent me a card that was too powerful for the PSU. And this after pulling teeth with customer service.

This is also the only PC we have and I can't really afford to go without one for the months it would take for shipping, RMAing, and the like.

best you can do without RMA-ing, to make sure where the issue lies, is to get a secondary PC and mix/match parts there, you will find your answer that way if you have a 2nd PC that you can borrow to test with...
