if so, i would highly recommend going for an AMD build and putting the saved cash into the GPU.

if not, then the GPU may be more than you would need. what sort of applications do you plan to run?

I currently don't game but I wanted to leave myself a little too
If I decided to do some light gaming in the future. I will be using Photoshop very lightly and encoding videos ie riping DVDs. I plan on using my tcl37s1 37 " LCD TV as a display.
I am coming from osX. So that is the only thing I have.

I don't really game at all and from the little bit I understand i7 out performs amd. In CPU intensive tasks.

Most important thing for me is room to grow. I don't want to have to build again for another three years or so. I would also like Emmy system to be fast.

from what you have planned i would say you have built a very good system. yes the i7 out performs an am3 chip clock for clock. however for encoding tasks a 6 core AMD chip would proably be a better option (and eould leave you a better upgrade path)

to be honest though, that build is very solid. it will do what you want.
