HD passes tests but not found

Hi,

I got a ThinkPad laptop that now refuses to boot up. When I try to reinstall Win OS, it says no HD is found. But in BIOS, the HD (WDC) is detected and passes HD diagnostics tests (Controller diag, read verification and speed test). I wonder what all these mean. Is the HD dead, or any other problems?

Any idea is highly appreciated.

It is ThinkPad x61, Win XP. And I am able to format the HD using IBM Disk Manager, but still the Win XP setup cannot detect it.

Thanks. Now I see where the problem is: it is downgraded from Vista to XP ( my friend gave me this laptop for repair).

You will need to download the SATA controler driver frome lenovo. then hit the 'F6' key durring setup to load the driver.
