Will a graphics card that has been damaged due to overheating and poor voltages cause slow framerates in games like crysis? By slow I mean 7-12 fps where I was getting 20-30 fps on the same settings. Even when I set everything to low I get only 12 fps.

I had a crappy PSU that was overheating my graphics card but I have replaced it with the Corsair TX 650w and the overheating is gone. Any help is appreciated.

Hello Guardian,

Yes this can definitely happen. I had a 9800xt that was overheating due to a bad cooler and even after it was replaced it was still artifacting as the damage was permanently done.

It could very well be the case here. I would suggest a new video card.

Ok, thanks. Luckily I was able to swap out my HD5770 with my old, damaged, GTS 250 and confirm that it was the HD5770 and not something worse.

It may also have been static, I'll have to be more careful next time. Thanks for the response.
