Hello,
I want to update to windows 7 from XP and had to purchase a new hard drive to do so, I bought a Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB SATA III 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive - WD5000AAKX, my old drive is a ST340015A - SEAGATE - 40GB 5400RPM EIDE HARD DISK DRIVE. 2MB BUFFER my Mother board is an Intel Corporation D865GLC with an Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz CPU. My question is can I just trade these two hard drives out or is there anything I need to know about it?

Another thing worth doing is downloading and running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your PC is ready for Windows 7. It scans your hardware, devices, and installed programs for known compatibility issues, gives you guidance on how to resolve potential issues found, and recommends what to do before you upgrade.

When all your hardware is compatable, then you should just use the WD clone tool "Acronis TI Western Dig Edition", Cloning & Mgmt Software for WD Drives to Clone your old Win-XP over to the new HDD before upgrading. Home Use is free.
