what do they mean when they say Supports for AM3 / AM2+ / AM2 processors

aren't AM3 and AM2 different sockets?

YES and YES, Some of the newer boards are AM3 [DDR3 only],,boards that support AM3,AM2+ AM2 are all pin compatible AND work with DDR2 ram , the CPU'S,, though will work with either DDR2 or DDR3 ram depending on the MOBO , got it ,,??..
Look at it this way I have a UD5P mobo that is am3 am2+ am2 compatible and runs ddr2 ram my 955be runs fine on that board, it also runs fine on my UD3H mobo which is ddr3 am3....cpu memory controler sees both ddr2 and ddr3........:)
