Hi,
I'm planning to create an i7-930 build in a short while, and wondering which cooling method is better for an ATI HD 5870:

I want to know which one cools better and quieter. I don't plan to overclock, but buy another one when the price comes down (when 6xxx series comes out)

From what I have researched, The first one sounds like a jet engine, while the other one sounds like a loud fan.

Thanks for your help

One thing worth noting is that the non reference version is likely going to vent more air into the case. The fan is placed in the middle, which will push air out both sides of the card. It shouldn't be a problem if you have a good case and fan setup.

^+1, also the second version is cheaper, (does not come with backplate either) which may mean that the cooling system may be as sufficient and quieter, but will, as bystander said, vent more hot air into your case.
