Does the drive light up when you connect it? I would try pulling the usb cable about 1/3 of the way out of the macbook and see if you can get it to recognize it. I have about 6 of those every single one had issues with the cable being a real pita to get working. If you pull the cable out a bit from the macbook, and you may have to fiddle with the end connected to the drive hopefully you can get it working.

Yes the drive does light up when i connect it. In fact the hard drive is working normally on my brother's toshiba laptop, so i think the is a problem with my mac and not the hard drive. i did try inserting it 1/3rd way through, but unfortunately that didnt work either :(

the os, drivers, etc are different when installed via usb versus internal install. try and install the hdd in the mb pro and then do a fresh install. good luck!

This is pretty easy.
Back up if you have files on it.
Got to utilities in applications.
Go to disc utility.
Click on the HD symbol of the Toshiba HD.
Click on the RAID button.
Click on format and make it MS DOS (FAT).
Name your drive in the panel above.
Now go to erase.
Title the HD again and click erase.
It'll take 30-40 seconds and it'll be ready to copy onto and work with.

Took those steps, switched to MS-DOS(FAT) but my macbook still does not recognize the hard drive; any other ideas?
