The problem is laptop freezes for short period and then recovers. I had this problem before and was told it was to do with Northbridge and there was a small program that cured it. Unfortunately had to replace hard drive and on reinstalling everything the fault returned. Yes, you have guessed, cant find program.

Can you help?

If it is an Intel laptop, the program you seek may be the Intel INF update(INF Drivers or chipset drivers as some call it). It is a driver pack for both north and south bridge chips on intel boards.

What laptop is it?

Laptops have a whole slew of specialized drivers, and I recommend that you only use the OEM OS and drivers that came with your PC or that are available from the OEM website. Any 'clean' install with a non-OEM OS is begging for problems.

If you did use the OEM install and if the Laptop is older then my focus, assuming no H/W problem(s), is to clean ALL of the cooling fins. The problem is taking apart the laptop in order to access those components.
