CPU: Phenom II 955 BE
RAM: G.SKILL 2 x 2GB DDR2 1100 (PC2 8800) Model F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI
MoBo: gigabyte ga-ma785gm-us2h

My default processor speed is 3.2Ghz currently OC'ed to 3.88 Ghz with a 18.5 Multiplier
My ram is running @ 1120 (multiplier of 533) with a FSB of 210 (ram is rated @ 1100 5-5-5-15)
my FSB ratio because of this is 3:8
i hear a 1:1 gives best performance with that being said how much of a performance boost are we talking about?
secondly how do i bring my ratio down close to a 1:1 if there is a major performance boost to be had?

lastly with a 1:1 or something as close to it as possible wouldn't i have to drop either my multiplier or my FSB dropping my overall performance to achieve this?
Thanks in advance.

Solution
1:1 is recommended for achieving the best results in OC'ng but it won't give you much(if any at all) performance boost compared to 3:8

so you are saying deal with the little bit of latency and be happy for the extra bandwidth right?

Dear Dwisen,

Over clocking is trial and error basis. So no one can assure a number that will give you best performance. My advice will be to use different settings and see the performance and select the best that you think.

P.s To check the performance of the system you can use utilities available online.

thank you for the reply.
i have been testing now for about 6 hours and i see only marginal speed differences between the two.
the real speed differences come into play when i start goofing with timing of the ram.
even then the latency is so small i think in modern systems its best to have the higher bandwidth more than the miniscule differences in latency.

so what would i have to do to get a 1:1?
drop cpu speed or ram clock or even both?
i would like to stay up in the 3.6-3.8 Ghz cpu clock so would i need to over/underclock my ram to do this and my what method?
ram multiplier or FSB?

thank you for all of your help so far. i have 1 question left. what is the point of buying super fast ram, if you have to underclock it to maintain a 1:1 ratio? wouldnt it be best to just buy the slowest ram you can find or am i missing something here?
