Purchased new HD5770 but cant get it to work.

Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards Purchased new HD5770 but cant get it to work.

I'm using an old rig, Windows XP 32 bit, P4 dual 3.0ghz 915 chipset/LGA775 MOBO/4G ddr ram/HD2600PRO. Works real good, not overclocked. I decided to upgrade and got a new PSU for the extra 6 pin connector. After installing the HD5770, during boot up it switched back to on-board video. I disabled on-board (after having problems with it not showing up on display adapter, which got fixed). Now I have no video, On-board or PCI. The only way I get video now is through my old 2600. I tried many combinations, Unistall all drivers, install all drivers, with and without the 5770/2600. The only thing I saw online was about going trhough BIOS and making it boot up video from PCI-e. I went to my BIOS and there are no options for video. But I think it already does boot up from PCI-e, because the pc only works now from my old 2600. Maybe this card isn't compatible with my rig??? Or OS??? I was thinking of upgrading to Win7, will that cure my issue or not?

please advice and thanks in advance

Rudy

did you reset the bios? just unplug the cmos battery and plug it back in after 20 seconds, then reconfigure your bios

well this is my card http://www.diamondmm.com/5770PE51G.php I couldn't tell if its the 2.1. and this is my MOBO http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-10PK-m [...] 10-100-LAN and no I didnt reset my BIOS, I guess that's where I should start. However if it isnt compatible I guess its a pc build for me.

PS, I've been in many forums but you guys are ridiculously fassst. I like it :D

The card is most likely 2.0 (the only one on Newegg is), the board is 1.0.
The newest BIOS is from Sept 2006 it is a possibility that an update would work since we are dealing with 2.0 card http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Se [...] rd+D915GAG

OK, I updated the BIOS and reset the BIOS as well. I have much more options now. No matter how I set the display, the new 5770 is not working. The PC boots up and the fan for the 5770 is running. Just no output from the DVI plug. Not from the on-board either. I guess its just a compatibility issue with the motherboard or maybe the 5770 is DOA. Anyone else have any ideas? If not, I will just build a new system. I might need some advice on that about which motherboard and cpu.

Thanks for all the replies,

When you say P4 dual - do you mean a PentiumD? If you have a PentiumD, you have a large CPU bottleneck holding back your 5770. In that case, building a new system might be a good idea.

If it's a decent PentiumDual (Core2Duo architecture), then you can overclock it nicely to eliminate most bottlenecks.

btw, have you tried the 5770 in a 2ndary rig or a friend's rig?

This cut: Your card might be the issue here, send it back for warranty ;)
