Your question

5770 or 5850?

So I have a bit of a dilemma I can't decide between a Sapphire 5770 (135GBP) and a Sapphire 5850 (250GBP)

My monitor is 1680x1050 would a 5850 be overkill for this resolution?

Also my CPU is an AMD 630 2.8GHz, wouldn't this bottleneck the 5850 slightly?

Lastly and most importantly is the 5850 worth it over the 5770? Especially considering it's almost double the price.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The HD5770 is enough for 1680 x 1050, plays almost everything good, two of them rival HD5870 in performance. It is all a question about which games you play and how much detail you want.

HD5770 is good for your resolution (1680x1050) and can play with highest setting on most of games.
But For a long term and better performance, HD5850 is much better... :)

The main games I play and plan to play are:

Left 4 Dead 2
Dragon Age

I also have some more questions.

Is Sapphire a good brand? Does anybody have experience with them?

And will a 2.1PCI-E card work in a 2.0PCI-E slot?

You will do good with a HD5770
Sapphire is the biggest ATI partner. They are a good brand, the only company I have had RMA with and totally painless.
The 2.1 std is fully backwards compatible with 2.0
