Motherboard with multiple CPU sockets?

I'm working in lab AI the University. We need buy one server and not we are sure what is the best option.

Is possible adquire the motherboard with multiple CPU sockets (e.g., 4 sockets) and buy only one processor? The idea is to buy the three processors later, because the budget does not allow higher spending.
