Hello,
my Sony Vaio PCV-RZ10C reports a hardware problem - power fan operating at 125 degrees F. Is the power fan part of the power supply? or a separate part?

Could be the fan of the power supply or an auxiliary case fan.
What seems strange to me is that usually fans are monitored for rpm's so that user is notified when they get lower than a threshold value and same goes for temperature sensors degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit. Could be a fan with a built in temp probe ?? You could open the case (if out of warranty) and see if there are any stuck fans or any operating at lower speeds, if there's any dust build up clogging things up etc...
