Dear All,

I have gone through a lot of posts in this forum and others on the web but am unable to make my portable HDD working. After connecting the HDD via USB with different cables my windows 7 recognizes the device as a freeagent drive in Device Manager, Disk Management & In Devices and printers. but i am unable to access it. Please help out here as the cost of going to professional recovery folks is too high. please see below images

This may be a power issue, the usb cable may not be supplying the disk with enough power. I have seen this many times but usually with external drives that use mini usb cables, and also with early model WD Passport drives. Possibly even a low powered usb port, if its a laptop or if connecting to a non-powered usb hub.

If you have tried connecting the drive directly to the sata data port and sata power ports and you still have an issue then I would suggest checking the disk for errors. It is possible that there is a problem on the disk and it needs to be checked. Download one of the many disk checking tools available online and run a diskcheck. If possible find a low level disk check tool and let it run for as long as it needs. If there is an error or bad sector or anything else that stops your pc from reading the data on the disk you should be able to repair it.

I tried connecting to my DEsktop PC which is a AMD Quad core but then my PC will be stuck on boot screen and once i remove this drive it will boot properly. I even tried to disable all HDD and do boot by CD but whenever i connect this HDD it will be stuck on Boot Screen.

also how to check for errors if none of the softwares recognize the drive??? can you advise a good disc checking tool???

Now i am thinking of using one of the 3 below devices. will they help? also any advise on which one i should go for.??
