PCI 3.0 throughput speed?

What is the realistic throughput speed of the PCIe3 bus. I have a client who wishes to use PCIe3 RAID controllers to hand RAID sets to a server and then serve that storage to number cruncher servers via InfiniBand 5. I need to ensure the PCIe3 can handle the speed and not be a choke point. Please email me at jaberwookie@yahoo.com.

I think it's up to 128GT's or 16GB's on a x16 lane slot.

At least I don't know of any raid controller / disk config that fills it. :)  And even then the problem will be to shift the data to the InfiniBand controller. Call DELL / HP / IBM sales and ask how they would do it. ;)

Simple enough with LGA2011 Xeons/i7 which have 40x PCIe 3.0 lanes. Enough for one x16 slot for RAID and another for Infiniband.

If this still isn't fast enough for OP then he's got a problem.

The problem is not the throughput of the bus but the protocol translation that has to be done by the CPU. Anyway, he will find his own solution for that. ;)
