Security/camera system computer or security system

Hello,
we breed puppies and I would like to put cameras on our dogs (and driveway)etc.
would i be better
1 buying prebuilt security (wires wouldn't be long enough most cases)
2 use computer with wireless cams
a use windows home server or window 7
already have computer and wireless n router to use just need cams and OS (gives me a reason to build me a NEW system...)
hopefully proper category
