Hey

I finished my new build about 3 weeks ago, and since then everything appears to be working fine (except) I have games crashing.

Here are my specs:

Antec 1200 Case.

LG Flatron 23" monitor.

ASUS P6TD Deluxe ATX Intel Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131403

Intel i7 960 3.2 GHz

OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820227365

OCZ Vertex 2 SSD (50GB) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820227528

CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139009

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 500GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822152181

CoolerMaster V8

XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB Video Card http://www.portatech.com/catalog/v [...] =27306&r=p

What happens is i'll be playing a game (In this case SimCity4) and i'll play for any amount of time (sometimes 3 hours, sometimes 5 minutes) And all of a sudden it'll crash back to windows. And in the case of SimCity4 I don't get a error message or anything. just freezes for a second and then windows comes up, and SC4 closes out.
Now at first I thought this was just SC4, its not the most stable game. and I have heard problems about it working with quad-cores.

But I just picked up Supreme Commander 2, which is a brand new game. And my comp play's it fine, but there again it seems to randomly crashing. Not at any particular point in the game. Sometimes it happens during a big battle where the comp is being tax'd a little. and sometimes not. Now with SupCom2 I do get a error message when it crashes, I get
"This program has stop'd working, Windows is looking for a solution"

Anyways I don't have any other problems with anything crashing. windows hasn't blue screened, or crashed, or froze.....

So do you think its just some un-stable games? or do I have a bigger underlying issue?

Check the event viewer to see if it's logging errors.

Go to XFX's website, and download the newest driver.

Are you using Windows 7? It kind of sounds like it's just not compatible with those games. It's not like they're really recent releases.

I have the latest XFX drivers. How to I check to see if its loggin errors?

And I know SC4 is an older game, but SupCom2 just came out lik 2 months ago. Should run on Windows 7

(And yes I do have windows 7 ultimate)

start-->run-->eventvwr.msc-->check the application and system logs. Look for red X's.

All right, I just tried that on my work comp and I have hundreds of em. Any particular errors that I should take note of? or be worried about?

Look at the source. Are they all the same, or most of them? You can double click on them, and see the event id, and the description. If you know the time of a BSOD, you can match that up with an error, or sequence of errors, in the log.

Ok, Yeah its my home comp that has the the problems I was just using my work comp for a comparison. But i'll do that. Thanks

Aight, so I did the event viewer and all of that. And whats happening is I have google chrome, and when it goes to update it crashes my game, looked back on all of the logs, within about 2 seconds up google going to update Supcom2 has a fatal error.

And SC4, well it looks like its just unstable, lots of application errors, no system errors.

Thanks for the help.
