12 or 16 gigs RAM overkill?

Hi.

I've got 8 gigs RAM (DDR3) and I'm just wondering if 12 or 16 or even 32 gigs is overkill for now. I don't even think I use my 8 gigs even with heavy desktop multitasking.

For most cases it would be an overkill! Only applications handling huge files would benefit from the extra memory.

8GB is a good amount, more would only serve you if you're doing rendering.

Otherwise look at the following image and BIG IF your 'Used Physical RAM' usage is >75% frequently then YEP time for more RAM:
