Why my optiplex 740 only recognises one of two memory cards

Hello,
Bought a matched pair of crucial 1gb chips and the computer only recognizes one of them. I have them in the 1 and two spots out of four available. Any suggestions. Had just a 512 when I bought it, I know its aqmd chip do not know which mobo.

Welcome, Newcomer. Have you tried moving the sticks around? If not, try this:CPU: | _ | _
or
CPU: _ | _ |
"|" indicates a populated DIMM slot, whereas "_" indicates an unpopluated DIMM.
thanks for your response, I checked out the Dell website and they indicated that for the dual processor to work the memory had to be in the 12 slot so I pulled them out and put them it about four times and they worked. Must not of make good contact the first time. A fried of mine this morning says that he cleans the contacts with an eraser before he put them in to get rid of any film that may be on them.
